Hellfire Bay

The Coastal Trail is the park’s long walk. Official material describes a challenging one-way linking the bays. A dedicated listing is often 15 km, Class 5, 8–9 hours; the park overview sometimes says about 20 km. Pack for the live page. Most first visits should not do the full length.
Not walked for this date — planning from Explore Parks WA / DBCA public pages. Confirm live alerts, fees and track status before you travel.
What “too long” looks like

Thistle Cove
DaHuzyBru · CC BY-SA 4.0 · Wikimedia Commons
Starting at 10 am from Le Grand Beach without a car at Rossiter. One 600 ml bottle. Wet granite on Hellfire–Thistle. Kids who were promised Lucky Bay kangaroos.
Bail-outs exist: Hellfire, Thistle, Lucky, Rossiter vehicle points. Use them. The easiest reverse is Thistle–Lucky.
Two-day version
Book Lucky Bay. Walk a western section one day and an eastern section the next. Still Class 4–5 in places. Still no drinking water at camp. Still not a beach holiday with a walk attached.
Who should not attempt the full length
Anyone who needs a formed path, groups with young children, first-time remote walkers, people without a shuttle, wet-weather days, and anyone treating cairns as optional. Carry a PLB conversation for the full traverse. 000 needs reception.
FAQ
Tap a question to expand the answer.
Is the trail 15 km or 20 km?
Both figures appear in official-adjacent Explore Parks material. Confirm the live trail page and pack water for the longer number.
Do I need a shuttle?
For a full one-way, yes — two cars or a driver who is not walking. Hitching is not a plan. Sections can be out-and-back from one bay.
