Lucky Bay is the reason most people drive east of Esperance. It is also the car park that fills. Waiting in the loop does not create a space. This is the failure-mode guide.

Decide in town, not in the loop

Agree the rule before Cape Le Grand Road: if Lucky Bay is full, you leave for another signed bay. You do not idle, you do not verge-park, you do not start a beach 4WD to “find a gap down the sand”. Official visitor notes already flag beaches as treacherous for vehicles.
Early arrival is the other half of the plan. Peak summer and WA school holidays are when 56 camp sites and the day-use lot compete for the same precinct.
Where to go instead
Thistle Cove

Hellfire Bay: granite headlands, often the first overflow. Good picnic / swim alternative. Do not automatically start the Class 5 Coastal Trail just because you are annoyed.
Thistle Cove: whistling rock, shorter Class 3 walk toward Lucky Bay if you still want that sand from the other end — only with a reverse or shuttle plan.
Le Grand Beach: west bookend, quieter, Mt Le Grand as a backdrop. Smaller campground if you already booked Park Stay there.
If you are camping
A Park Stay booking is not a reserved bay number — official notes: choose a vacant site on arrival. A full day-use lot can still coexist with booked camping. Do not occupy a second site for extra parking.
Do not invent parking
Vegetation, dune, and loop-blocking waits are how rangers and recovery bills get involved. Hellfire, Thistle and Le Grand Beach are signed car parks. Use them.
If you still wanted Lucky Bay sand, walk Thistle → Lucky only with a reverse or shuttle — not as a way to dump a car in an illegal gap.

Can I wait 20 minutes?
Only if you are legally parked. Do not block the loop. If there is no bay, the honest move is another signed car park.
Does a camp booking guarantee a day-use space?
No. Camping and day-use parking are different. Follow Park Stay / on-site rules. Do not occupy a second site for extra parking.
