Le Grand Beach & Rossiter Bay
Guide updated · not walked — verify Explore Parks WA / DBCA
West and east bookends of the Coastal Trail. Le Grand Beach has a smaller 14-site campground and Mt Le Grand as a backdrop. Rossiter is quieter, with bird thickets; the spur road can be unsealed in parts.
- Best for: Quieter camping (Le Grand Beach); walkers staging a full Coastal Trail; beachcombing
- Time: Half day to overnight
- Le Grand Beach is on the sealed system. Rossiter access includes unsealed sections — confirm live 2WD advice on Explore Parks.

The quieter ends
Le Grand Beach campground is 14 unpowered sites behind the dunes — quieter than Lucky Bay, still official, still bring water. Rossiter Bay is the east end: beachcombing and flowering thickets for birds, not the postcard kangaroo shot.
Walkers use these as shuttle points. Day visitors who only have Lucky Bay on the list can skip Rossiter without failing the park.
Le Grand Beach camp — smaller, same rules
Fourteen unpowered sites. Same systems as Lucky Bay: Park Stay only, no drinking water provided, pack out, no fires, no dogs, generator hours restricted — confirm live on Park Stay. If Lucky Bay is sold out and you still want to camp in-park, this is the other official option — if it has a vacant booked site.
Mt Le Grand (345 m) is the granite backdrop, not a marked family walk. Do not treat it as Frenchman Peak with a different name. Undefined or more serious routes belong to people who already navigate granite — not a first-visit add-on.
Rossiter Bay and the spur road
Rossiter is the east bookend of the Coastal Trail. Access includes unsealed sections in parts — confirm live 2WD advice before you take a hire car. It is not automatically the same as Lucky Bay’s sealed approach.
Worth it for walkers staging a shuttle, or for a quieter beachcomb. Skip it if you are already cooked and Lucky Bay was the product.
Shuttle points, not a casual hop
A full Coastal Trail one-way wants a car at both ends. Le Grand Beach (west) and Rossiter (east) are the bookends; Hellfire, Thistle and Lucky sit in between. Hitching is not an itinerary.
Overnight at Lucky Bay (booked) splits the traverse. Still Class 4–5 in places. Still carry water.

Two days: camp at Lucky Bay
Overnight at Lucky Bay (56 sites, unpowered, no drinking water provided) then a cooler morning for Frenchman Peak or a Coastal Trail section. Camping is a separate system from vehicle entry.
Full hard day, or two days with a Lucky Bay camp
Walker day: Coastal Trail by sections
Do not default to the full 15–20 km one-way. Walk Thistle–Lucky, or Hellfire–Thistle only if granite is dry. Full traverse needs a shuttle, water and a PLB conversation.
